Yes, my much loved Tula (baby carrier) which once kept her safe and snug on my front has now taken refuge under my car seat for the past few months. Wearing it has become impossible with my tiny frame and her 11kgs of wriggling limbs trying to grab this that and the other as we walk around my favourite op shops. I’ve learn’t some great tips from friend Becky to wear her on my back, I just need to practise somewhere, like on a bouncy castle. Did you know it’s NZ Babywearing Week? If you’re in Dunedin Becky has organised the Babywearing Walk & Picnic for this Sunday! (Oct 9th) There will also be demonstrations and spot prizes, so make sure you come along, or check out what’s happening in your city.
Like every month, my photoshoots with Nova have shifted into a new realm of challenges. I thought I’d try to do a shoot like last Spring, featuring freshly picked daffodils from the garden, but before I could even get the camera to my eye, Nova had lovingly decapitated, munched and stomped on them all. Set dressing a space for a 1 year old is very tricky as their favourite game is turning into the Tasmanian Devil! Like a little hurricane everything is destroyed in seconds. Luckily the winning shot (seen below) is the result of her running out of steam. Thank-goodness, wine please.
But what really blows my mind during the 12- 15 month age, is all the info that has gone in is now spilling out in all sorts of cool ways. We’re watching her imagination grow as she acts out her favourite toy-friends having a smooch and wanting to copy us grown ups, by taking off her glasses, blowing some steam on them and cleaning them. Still trying to remind myself that this is the ‘parrot stage’ where all words are being repeated right back at me, including the F-bomb. (my bad!) Maybe I’ll just make out she’s talking about ducks, next time she says it in public?!
